Dental Anatomy Embryology & Oral Histology
Dental Anatomy and Oral Histology is an indispensable part of the BDS curriculum. It is introduced to the students in their first year of the Dental course in India. This subject forms the basis of clinical dentistry. The cognitive and psychomotor skills of the students are sharpened by teaching the recognition of tooth morphology and examining preserved tooth specimens. This is combined with two dimension drawings by scale on graph paper and carving teeth from wax blocks. Oral Histology and Embryology is of special significance since it includes the development and microscopic study of the tissues of the oral and para-oral structures. Normal Oral Anatomy and Histology of the oral and maxillofacial region and its development forms the foundation of the undergraduate dental curriculum. Traditionally, didactic content for the subject is available in standardized textbooks and is summarized by the faculty in lectures to the entire class.
